So it's been a long time and...

Oh how I wish I could say I have nothing to blog about! Here is a small snippet of what has been happening around here and hence the not so much blogging.

It was the day of enrichment, which is always a crazy day at this house. (I'm the enrichment leader.) I was busy trying to get the last-minute details finished up and asked Jake to bring the phone to me.

He isn’t moving very fast (he rarely is) so I start yelling to him, “Jake! Bring me the phone!” and so on. I can hear him talking to someone, which confuses me a little, but I’m thinking maybe he hit the redial button? I yell at him even louder.I hear him end his friendly chat by saying goodbye as he comes down the stairs and hands me the phone. I ask him, “Who were you talking to?” He proceeds to inform me, “I called 9-1-1.”

I’m sure the look on my face must have said it all but I proceeded to ask him, “Do you see a fire around here? Is there an EMERGENCY?!” His reply, “No, I just wanted to talk.”

I then begin to inform him that when someone calls 9-1-1 they send a police officer out to check and make sure that there isn’t an emergency and now a policeman is coming to our house. He looses it…big time.

Jacob is screaming and crying and then Josh starts bawling. I’m confused about Josh’s reaction, so I ask Josh why he’s crying. In his squeaky little voice he tells me, “I’m going to miss Jake.” I almost laughed.I ask Jake why he’s crying. He wails, “I don’t want to go to Jaaaiiilll.” Neither of them could be consoled and Nathan decides to join in on the crying too.

Meanwhile I’m FREAKING out (on the inside) because the house is a disaster. (It’s enrichment night, remember?) I’m trying to clean because they’re on their way to take my children, I’m just sure of it.

I was also wondering what I should do…call 9-1-1 back to explain? Leave as fast as I can? Keep praying that he didn’t really call who he was claiming he called?

And then the phone rings. (Remember three boys are in hysterics at this point.) I answer the phone to be greeted by a sergeant informing me that 9-1-1 dispatch had just informed him a “polite young gentleman” had just called “wanting to know if they were having a good day.” Oh my Jacob.I tried my best to explain and apologize (and was again praying…this time that the police sergeant didn’t think I was beating my children with all the screaming and crying that was going on).

He said he would explain it to dispatch and tell them not to send an officer. I told the sergeant they were crying now because they thought the police were coming to take Jacob away. Then he chuckled and said, “Good luck with that.”

I think Jake’s learned his lesson (and I think it scared Josh out of ever doing it). I was finally able to convince Jake he wasn’t going to jail and he was able to calm down. This morning he told me, “Mom, I should have called Grandma Nelson to talk instead of 9-1-1.” I’ve also had the pleasure of listening to numerous scenarios (most of them involving blood) that would be considered emergencies and then it would be okay for him to call 9-1-1.

Someone told me that every family has a 9-1-1 experience. Have you? (Help me feel better about this!) And those of you with younger children…watch out!

To dang cute and funny! I love the part when the officer said a nice young man called to ask how our day was? that was a crack up!

Yes' in 3rd grade my twin brother slammed his finger in my parents bedroom door and he was screaming...I jockingly said "CALL 911 CALL 911" and the friends we had over the girl did! so they showed up all the kids are in hysterics the officerS came in and assisted us and one said "Who got this bowl of ice water for his finger" I perked up and said me! he said you did the right thing. They left and it was all good, but the friends parents thought we were now rebels and didn't want their kids playing with us anymore? Go figure?

Oh my gosh! I read this story to my hubby Jake and we are both laughing so hard! That is hysterical that he asked them how their day was going!!! What a cutie! I love that Josh was so concerned, too!

I took Evan to the childcare at the gym and they caught him chewing on a bug when he was probably about eight months old. They called me down to the childcare to inform me, but I wasn't too concerned (they had removed the bug). The childcare workers were very concerned for some reason and had the fire department come out and check his vitals while I finished my workout. (Does this make me sound like a slacker mom???) Of course he was fine, but they said the firemen went "ga ga" over Evan, which I thought was funny.

I have to say that is so cute, just because he just wanted to talk to someone. I am sure the dispatcher actually got a good feeling later after the normal calls they get. To bad you guys don't live in Las Vegas cause I would have you guys visit a police station to meet with Officers to understand Police are ok and they won't take them to jail. I would suggest even visiting a station there just so they know everything is ok. Most Officers I know would love to meet and greet the young ones. Good luck. Love reading your blog.

Hey, you left out the part about finding a piece of chewed gum in the Enrichment dinner's birthday cake. I thought that topped off the entire evening! Do you remember the time one of my daycare boys called 9-1-1? His mom was a dispatcher. A policeman did come out to investigate. Oh what a day:)

I laughed out loud for a very long tmie over that one. Thanks for sharing. My kids haven't called 911 yet. I've told Sam he can't call unless I'm laying on the floor with blood coming out of my head. I added the part about the blood because I don't want him to call 911 when I'm just taking a nap.
Your kids are funny. They might even be funnier than mine.

Adam always calls 911 whenever he sees anything on the road. I don't think I would ever, because I'm too scared. So maybe it is good practice in case anything ever happens he's prepared.

I am sure that it happens all the time. And although I would be embarassed, at least they didn't come to your house. And you have to admit it is kind of cute. I can just picture the whole thing going down. And it is pretty funny if it is not happening to you!

Thanks for letting us crash at your place. You are absolutely amazing and thanks for the yummy breakfast too! So when are you going to let me play with the kids at the sacramento temple? There is a big open grass area and lots of trees. Last time we were there with Jackson we collected acorns and chased around the peacocks. We'll just pack some snacks, have a picnic, and you'll be out before you know it. Just let me know when!

What a polite little one you have! My kids are deathly affraid of the police as we often remind them that they (the police) take people away who are being naughty. Your story reminds me that maybe we should be teaching them about emergency situations. Hahahha...thanks for the laugh!

I was laughing so hard when I read this story!!! Seamus is still too young to be calling 911 (thank goodness!). I have several stories from when I was little though..... Hopefully it won't happen to you guys too many more times. :-)

So funny!! I can hear you yelling at Jake in my head as I am reading this... oh, what a funny story! At least he was a gentleman and not claming that you were hurting him or something! Natalie, you definately have your hands fun!! Thanks for the great story!

Okay Nat still the funniest thing I've heard! Your boys are great. Everyone I tell just starts busting up. How sweet of Josh to cry for his brother. Remember he didn't choose you and Will he just wanted to come to your family to be with Jake. That would bring me to tears too.

Oh geez! Jake seems like quite the character, and how sweet of Josh to be so concerned about his brother! Luckily, we haven't had any 911 dialing experiences yet. I don't want to teach Cohen about it just yet, in fear of I might end up with the same situation!

There was a piece of chewed gum in the birthday cake, really?

Um, yeah. I've done it--TWICE. Once was at work so it was very mortifying. But in my defense, my mom's cell phone number was 691-1155. So if I missed the 6 it dialed 911. Not good.
