Leafy Greens

Determined not to let another boy fall into the depths of no veggie eating...Nathan was privileged with a tasty treat for snack time!My dad would call this snack a Newlywed’s Delight… LETTUCE ALONE. (And you thought I was cheesy?!)I’ve complained about my family’s eating habits before and I appreciate everyone’s advice. I did get a copy of Deceptively Delicious (thanks Danielle) and my gal Jill came over and showed me the ropes of steaming and pureeing. It warms my heart to know that my family is eating veggies (even if they don't know it) and they are even doing better at eating the ones on their plates.Notice how one of my boys isn't pictured eating their leafy treat? Two out of three is pretty good odds...

Bella is my only fruit and veggie eater! Thank goodness Preston is coming around slowly and willing to try more things.

It's good to know that my kids aren't the only ones that don't eat many vegetables. I guess all we can do is keep trying! Good for you for getting them to try lettuce!

These pictures are hilarious! You are so funny to hand your baby a big leaf of lettuce! HA! My sister has a very picky eater and recently started using some of those Deceptively Delicious recipes and Little Miss Picky actually declared on of them the best meal she'd ever eaten in all her 8 years- little did she know it was full of squash! I hope it works well for you! The thoughts of steaming and pureeing (sp?) freak me out, personally. You'll have to let us know how it goes.

The recipes in the book SEEM to be good, but I have to confess that I haven't actually used any of them.

Introducing a new (veggie-packed) meal to the boys was bound to be eventful, so I've just added the purees to my usual menu. If it's red (spaghetti, lasagna, sloppy joes, baked ziti...), you'd better believe it's got carrot puree in it. I've also used cauliflower, broccoli, and sweet potato. I just match the colors!

Jill has made quite a few of the recipes and I've eaten the banana peanut butter muffins and they were yummy! Some day I'll use the actual recipes...just not this one.

The steaming and pureeing isn't bad, especially if you do it with a friend!

The only green things my children (including my husband)will eat is green beans from grandma's garden. I told them that they were "magic beans" and that it will help them grow like "Jack and the Beanstalk". I've tried to get them to pretend they were animals to eat their salad but it didn't work. Other veggies they'll eat are carrots, potatoes, & corn. They do eat a ton of fruits though, so I really can't complain.

my kids love lettuce. okay, well, they cheat and dip it in ranch:)

your boys are sooo cute! is your husband Hawaiian?(just guessing by the name). my husband is Guamanian, so my kids got a little island flare to them too:)

I love that they're eating this massive chunk of lettuce! What a way to dive right in!

I'm glad I'm not the only one having a hard time getting my kids to eat right.

And yes, my hubby is Hawaiian. I guess my kids have a little "island flare" but not as much as I was hoping for. I feel a little ripped off!
